Yamaha YE-01 Electric Motocross Bike Set for Racing Debut
Yamaha is taking its YE-01 electric motocross concept to the next stage with an exhibition run at the 2026 Motocross of Nations, highlighting its push into electric off-road racing.
Yamaha YE-01 Moves Closer to Electric Racing
Yamaha is preparing to showcase its YE-01 Racing Concept at the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations 2026 in France.
According to the company, the electric motocross bike will make an exhibition run at the event starting October 2, 2026. At the same time, Yamaha says the move supports its plans to compete in the upcoming MXEP electric motocross racing series.
For now, the YE-01 is not a production electric motorcycle. Instead, Yamaha is using the concept to develop and test technologies for electric motocross racing.
YE-01 Developed With Electric Motion
Yamaha developed the YE-01 together with French electric motorcycle manufacturer Electric Motion SAS.
Through this partnership, Yamaha contributes its motocross chassis expertise, while Electric Motion brings its electric powertrain technology. In particular, the bike’s chassis development draws on technology and experience gained from the YZ450F motocross motorcycle.
As a result, the YE-01 focuses heavily on handling, control and rider connection rather than simply chasing conventional road-bike specifications.
Electric Powertrain Built for Motocross
At the heart of the YE-01 sits a dedicated electric power unit jointly developed by Yamaha and Electric Motion.
However, Yamaha has not published full production-style figures for battery capacity, peak power, torque or riding range. Therefore, battery size and range should not be treated as confirmed production specifications.
Instead, the development focuses on how electric power can perform in demanding motocross conditions. For example, controllable drive force, quick response and predictable power delivery can help riders manage difficult sections of a track.
Yamaha Keeps a Clutch on an Electric Motocross Bike
One of the most distinctive features of the YE-01 is its mechanical clutch.
Unlike many electric motorcycles that rely mainly on electronic power control, this concept allows the rider to manage drive force through a clutch lever. Consequently, riders get an additional physical control while tackling technical sections of a motocross track.
According to Yamaha, the system is intended to create a stronger connection between the rider and motorcycle. Moreover, it can give riders another way to control the bike during jumps, corners and difficult terrain.
YZ450F-Inspired Chassis
The YE-01 uses a newly developed frame based on Yamaha’s experience with the YZ450F.
Meanwhile, the company says the frame aims to provide strong handling stability and precise control. The development also focuses on maintaining a close connection between the rider and the motorcycle.
This approach matters in motocross because riders constantly adjust acceleration, body position and motorcycle balance. Therefore, chassis behavior becomes just as important as electric motor performance.
YE-01 First Appeared at EICMA 2025
Yamaha first revealed the YE-01 at EICMA 2025 in Milan.
During that unveiling, the company presented the motorcycle as an electric motocross concept designed to explore new possibilities for off-road riding. At the time, Yamaha also connected the project with its plans for the MXEP electric motocross category.
Since then, development has moved toward real-world testing and public demonstrations. Now, the MXoN exhibition run represents another step in that process.
YE-01 to Make Exhibition Run at MXoN 2026
The next major step will take place at the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations 2026 in Ernée, France.
During the event, Yamaha plans to display the YE-01 and conduct an exhibition run. As a result, spectators will get an opportunity to see how an electric motocross motorcycle performs in a racing environment.
More importantly, Yamaha says the project supports its future participation in MXEP, an electric motocross racing series planned for the coming years.
Yamaha’s Electric Motocross Strategy
The YE-01 forms part of Yamaha’s broader electrification research.
Previously, the company explored electric competition technology through projects such as the TY-E electric trials motorcycle. Yamaha also supplies powertrain technology to the Lola Yamaha ABT Formula E team.
Together, these projects give Yamaha experience in areas such as electric control, thermal management and durability. Now, the YE-01 brings that development into motocross.
Through this project, engineers can study how electric power behaves under repeated acceleration, heavy loads and demanding off-road conditions. In turn, those lessons could help shape Yamaha’s future electric motorcycle technology.

Yamaha YE-01 Price and Availability
The Yamaha YE-01 does not have an official retail price.
At present, Yamaha describes the motorcycle as a racing concept and development project. Furthermore, the company has not announced a production version for regular customers.
Therefore, there is no confirmed Nepal price or launch date for the YE-01. For now, the motorcycle remains focused on electric motocross development rather than consumer sales.
If Yamaha eventually develops a production version, its final specifications, equipment and positioning could differ from the current racing concept.
Yamaha YE-01: What It Means for Electric Motorcycles
The YE-01 shows how Yamaha is exploring electric technology beyond conventional scooters and commuter motorcycles.
Unlike an everyday electric motorcycle, this concept targets one of the most demanding two-wheel racing environments. Motocross places heavy demands on power delivery, thermal management, chassis balance and rider control.
Furthermore, the mechanical clutch highlights Yamaha’s effort to retain some familiar motocross riding characteristics while switching to electric power.
For now, the YE-01 remains a concept rather than a production EV. However, its upcoming MXoN exhibition run will provide another opportunity to test Yamaha’s approach to electric motocross in a real racing environment.
