BYD Fang Cheng Bao Shark Set to Enter China as PHEV Pickup Returns Home
BYD is preparing to introduce its Shark plug-in hybrid pickup in China under the Fang Cheng Bao brand after the model gained a presence in overseas markets.
Fang Cheng Bao Shark Teased for China
BYD’s rugged pickup is preparing for a major market change. The BYD Shark, also known as Shark 6 in international markets, is set to enter China under the Fang Cheng Bao brand.
Fang Cheng Bao General Manager Xiong Tianbo recently shared official teaser images of the pickup with the message “The king returns from overseas,” signaling its upcoming domestic launch.
The model originally made its global debut in Mexico in May 2024 before expanding into several international markets.
Shark Gets Fang Cheng Bao Branding
The upcoming Chinese-market model is essentially the Shark pickup being brought back to BYD’s home market under its Fang Cheng Bao marque.
The pickup is part of BYD’s growing range of rugged new-energy vehicles and uses the company’s DMO platform, which is also used by other Fang Cheng Bao models.
Unlike conventional petrol pickups, the Shark uses a plug-in hybrid powertrain combining a petrol engine with electric motors.
Plug-in Hybrid Powertrain With AWD
According to Chinese regulatory information, the Fang Cheng Bao Shark uses a four-wheel-drive system with two electric motors.
The front motor is listed with a peak output of 170 kW, while the rear motor produces up to 150 kW. The vehicle also uses a FinDreams LFP battery supplied by BYD’s battery division.
The petrol engine is listed with a maximum net output of around 135 kW. The combination gives the pickup an electric-assisted all-wheel-drive setup designed for both road and utility use.
Large Double-Cab Pickup
The Fang Cheng Bao Shark is a four-door, double-cab pickup.
Regulatory data lists dimensions of approximately 5,457 mm in length, 1,971 mm in width and 1,925 mm in height, with a 3,260 mm wheelbase.
The cargo bed measures around 1,520 mm long, 1,530 mm wide and 515 mm deep.
The pickup also has a listed 460 kg payload capacity and can tow up to 2,500 kg.
Shark Already Has an International Presence
Although the Chinese launch is still ahead, the Shark is not a new model globally.
The pickup has already entered markets including Australia, Brazil, Chile, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and the UAE. Its first international launch took place in Mexico in 2024.
This makes the Chinese launch more of a return to the home market than a completely new global introduction.
More Than 20,000 Units Exported in First Half of 2026
The Shark has recorded significant overseas shipments in 2026.
BYD exported 20,037 Shark 6 pickups during the first half of 2026, according to recent reports. However, exports were down compared with the same period a year earlier.
Australia has been one of the model’s major markets, accounting for a large share of its sales during June 2026.
China Launch Date and Price Yet to Be Confirmed
While Fang Cheng Bao has officially teased the Shark, BYD has not yet announced the final Chinese launch date or official price.
The domestic version could therefore receive further specification or equipment changes before it reaches Chinese dealerships.
For now, the Shark’s return to China represents BYD’s move to bring an already-established international pickup into its home-market Fang Cheng Bao lineup.
Fang Cheng Bao Expands Its Rugged Vehicle Lineup
The Fang Cheng Bao Shark gives BYD another entry in China’s growing new-energy pickup segment.
With its plug-in hybrid system, electric AWD, large pickup body and 2.5-tonne towing capacity, the model combines utility-focused hardware with BYD’s electrification technology.
The upcoming Chinese launch will reveal how BYD positions the Fang Cheng Bao Shark in its domestic pickup market and whether the model receives further changes for Chinese customers.
