MG Comet EV

MG Comet EV: India’s Smallest and Most Affordable Electric Car
The MG Comet EV is the smallest and most affordable electric car on the market today. This two-door, four-seat compact EV is designed for city use. It targets urban commuters looking for a cost-effective electric option. Its styling and compact dimensions may divide opinions, but it certainly stands out. The Comet EV uses a 17.3 kWh battery pack. MG claims a range of 230 km, though real-world figures are usually closer to 200 km.
Performance and Driving Dynamics
You shouldn’t expect strong performance from the Comet EV. It features a single rear-mounted motor that produces 41 hp and 110 Nm of torque. Despite modest numbers, it feels quick enough at city speeds. It also includes three drive modes. The top speed is limited to 100 kmph, which suits urban driving. A turning radius under four metres makes tight cornering easy. Its soft suspension absorbs bumps well. However, the ride gets unstable at higher speeds, with noticeable body roll above 80 kmph.

Interior, Cabin Space, and Features
The Comet EV’s compact size makes parking easy. However, interior space is limited. Still, the cabin feels well-appointed in a light grey tone. The front passenger seat slides forward to let passengers access the rear. The rear seats also fold to create extra cargo room, but the boot space is minimal. MG has equipped the EV with two 10.25-inch screens. There are multiple storage areas throughout the cabin. The two-spoke steering wheel uses iPod-style controls, adding a modern touch.
Design and Color Options
The Comet EV looks its best in darker shades. MG offers three single-tone and two dual-tone color options. You can also customize it with optional body graphics.
Pricing, Positioning, and Use Case
At its launch price, the Comet EV is cheaper than indirect rivals like the Tata Tiago EV and Citroën eC3. It’s ideal as a second car for small families who already own another vehicle. However, it may not be suitable as a household’s only car. A full charge takes about seven hours, making it more practical for daily city use.
